Jero is Japan's first black enka singer, leading him to be dubbed 'kurofune' or 'black ship', a reference to the fleet of warships that Commodore Perry used to open up Japan to the west in 1852. He's actually not a bad singer, if not outstanding, his success based partly on the novelty value. This is his first full album and includes his biggest hit Umiyuki.
