Product Description
In the autumn of 1979, YMO embarked on the first world tour by a Japanese band, called Trans AtlanticTour. Carrying 1.5 tons of equipment, they performed seven shows in three countries, in the UK, France, and the East Coast of the United States. Live recordings were made at the performances at 'The Venue' in Victoria, London with two performances. Theatre Le Palace in Paris was next, followed by The Bottom Line in New York. These live recordings were released in 1980 as the live album Public Pressure, with YMO members selecting the performances from each city. It reached number one on the album charts in Japan, becoming a social phenomenon as YMO were the first group from Japan to gain a genuine international following.
Forty five years later, to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Alfa Music's founding, a live box set was released that conveyed the full story of the live recordings from the four cities and five performances. The live recordings feature YMO members Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Yukihiro Takahashi, as well as support members Kazumi Watanabe (Guitar), Akiko Yano (Keyboards), and Hideki Matsutake (Programming). The recordings were mixed and mastered by world-renowned engineer Goh Hotoda. Under the supervision of Haruomi Hosono, the work was carefully done from multi-tape, allowing the listener to relive the 1979 world tour while retaining the excitement at the time.
The Los Angeles Greek Theatre concert was released individually on Blu-spec CD2 and on vinyl in 2025, and in 2026, the three other shows, London, Paris and New York are being released individually on Blu-spec CD2 and on vinyl.
