Shakuhachi is most often associated with traditional classical music, but is also an integral part of minyo or folk music. The foremost player of this minyo style is Satoshi Yoneya, who as well as performing solo, has played with the Takio Ito Band and female minyo singer Akiko Kanazawa. On this album, Yoneya plays minyo and kayokyoku (half way between minyo and pop), accompanied by piano, keyboards, bass and drums which results in a sound more 'new age' than his previous albums.
