Yusuke Kenmochi was born in 1983 in Nagoya. He studied under his father, Yutaka Kenmochi, and Tsugaru shamisen with Takayuki Matsuda. He is known as one of Japan's brightest male minyo, or folk music singers. He sings songs from Niigata (where his father is from) and from all over Japan. Kenmochi also plays shamisen and gottan (a shamisen from Kyushu) and is accompanied by shakuhachi, shinobue, koto, hayashi and taiko.
