Tokiwazu is a style of Joruri narrative music used in Kabuki theatre dance pieces. Tokiwazu, together with other narrative styles Kiyomoto anad Tomimoto are similar but have subtle differences especially in atmosphere as they reflect the period they were popular. All derive from Bungo Bushi founded by Miyakoji Bungo-no-Jo. Tokiwazu was formed by one of Bungo-no-Jo's students called Tokiwazu Mojitayu (1709-1781). The first period of greatness in the Tokiwazu style was in the 1750s and then later at the beginning of thr 19th century. This CD features Tokiwazu Chitosedayu, Tokiwazu Kikusaburo, Tokiwazu Chisedayu, Tokiwazu Mitosedayu and others.
