Released June 24th 2026. Time is the follow up to Life (1999) the Ryuichi Sakamoto opera. A performance of Life was staged at the Nippon Budokan and Osaka Castle Hall in 1999. All music was written by Sakamoto with visuals by Shiro Takatami.
Production of Time began in 2017, and had its world premiere in 2021 at the Holland Festival (Amsterdam, the Netherlands). It was highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad. The Japanese premiere was held at the New National Theatre, Tokyo, on March 28, 2024, exactly one year after the passing of Sakamoto. It is his final stage work, described as a 'wordless' opera, again created with Shiro Takatani, It explores the non-linear nature of time through music,installation art and traditional Japanese theatre. Includes 108 booklet in Japanese and English with production notes and stage photos. Features Min Tanaka, Mayumi Miyata (sho), and Rin Ishihara, Sound/installation/visual art.
