Product Description

Toyo Nakamura was a Japanese music critiic who passed away in 2011. In 1986 he published what became known as a kind of bible of world music, called The People's Music. A double LP was released, and later in 1990, a 3 CD set was issued with extra tracks. This is a reproduction of that box set, with the original notes by Toyo Nakamura with added notes by music journalist, producer and record label owner Katsunori Tanaka. The CDs and book had an enormous influence on the development of 'world music' in Japan. The tracks are from all corners of the globe, with many vintage and classic recordings of the most popular singers and musicians of the various countries such as Hawaii, the Carribean, Latin America, Africa, South East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Artists include Sol Hoopi, Carmen Miranda, Arsenio Rodriguez, Duke Ellington, Dark City Sisters, Waldjinah, Lata Mangeshkar, Saloma, Miguelito Valdes, Slim Gaillard, Zaiko Langa Langa. E.T Mensah Orchestra, Fairuz and many more.
