New Music emerged in the early 1970s under the influence of US singer/songwriters. Solo or group vocals with a guitar accompaniment is one of the basic instrumentations. It created an alternative scene. Young people preferred westernized sounds, although the boundary between kayoukyoku and new music became blurred by the 1980s.
