Okuda Utanoichi is vice head of the Seihahogaku kai, one of the main schools of koto, collectively part of the Ikuta school. It has ten branches in Japan and one in the US. This recording breathes new life into Japanese classical music. Konohana Sakuyahime was commissioned by a Japanese dancer, Takahiro Umezu, combines koto and vocals. Kiyotsune is a Zeami Kabuki dance piece, turned into a completely new koto arrangement for male and female vocals, koto and fue (flute)
