Superb first album from singer and sanshin player Yoko Ishikawa. Ishikawa studied under Shizuko Oshiro, and she plays several of Oshiro's songs, as well as other tunes from throughout Okinawa and the last song from Okinoerabu, Amami. A handful of accompanying musicians play sanshin, sanba and shimadaiko including Keiko Kinjo and Setsuko Kikuyama, with a traditional feel throughout. Beautifully recorded, performed, with a variety of styles, rhythms and moods to keep the listener interested throughout.
