Product Description
Released July 2026. Yui Yui Sisters are a female quartet (much like Nenes or Four Sisters). They were formed in 1992 after singer Mayumi Yamakawa performed the song 'Yui Yui' on a nationwide children's television programme called Hirake! Ponkikki. They released their first album in 1995 and another two albums on a local label. In 2015 they released their first album for seventeen years, now under the leadership of Yamakawa who had replaced the original leader, and another album in 2017. This is their first album since then, and is an altogether bigger project than previous releases. Maesato Hideki, a leading figure in Okinawan jazz, produced the more pop oriented songs while Oshiro Takayuki, a young leading figure in Ryukyuan classical music, produced the more folk oriented songs. The women's voices are accompanied by a horn section on some songs, while acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, cajon and other instruments are also utiliized. Includes 'Yui Yui' in both Okinawan language and standard Japanese, some Okinawan traditional repertoire, but mainly new songs.
