Shin Sasakubo is a remarkable, classically trained guitarist from Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture. He lived in Peru from 2004 for four years, including travelling to remote Andean mountain villages to study the indigenous music. On his return he became more interested in the forgotten folk songs of his native chichibu, combined with raising awareness of the destruction of the local sacred mountain of Chichibu, Mount Buko. Mount Buko has long been mined to produce cement, mostly feedling the growth of the infrastruce of Tokyo, it's distorted shape today. left resembling a pyramid. Extraordinary album that mixes Peruvian folk and avant garde sounds with a Japanese sensibility. Daisuke Ito - Siku (panpipe), Miho Kimura (vocals) Haruka Shimizu (electric guitar) Naoki Takano (drums) Hiroto Hayashi (voice). Watch the poignant video.
