Shunie is the ceremony of water and fire that takes place in Nara's Todai-ji temple, also known as Omizutori. The ceremony is held from March 1st to 14th, its conclusion signalling the beginning of spring. Eleven priests pray for world peace and the prosperity of Japan. This ceremony has been practiced for over 1200 years.
