Product Description

531 minutes, NTSC, Region Code 2, Japanese only. First performed in 1771, written by Hanji Chikamatsu, Baku Matsuda, Zenpai Sakai, Tonan Chikamtsu and Shoraku Miyoshi. The story is set in the 7th century, and centres on the power struggle between the Soga and Fujiwara families. Soga no Iruka has gained control of the state, while the emperor is in hiding. Two feuding families, the Dazai and Daihanji remain loyal to the emperor but Iruka orders the daughter of the deceased Dazai no Shoni become his concubine and the son of Daihanji become his retainer.
Box set is of the five DVDs below plus comes with a copy of Yukabon-Shu, the gidayu (narrator's) script, and a bonus CD with Kinden no Dan recorded in 1955. (43 minutes).
