The music of Miyako island has gained attention in Japan and overseas recently through the 'Sketches of Myahk' album by Blue Asia and promotion at WOMEX in 2013 by Satoru Shimoji and others. This is the first album by traditional singer Miwa Yonashiro, recorded at Shimoji's studio and released on his label. Nine traditional Miyako songs, beautifully sung, accompanied by sanshin and some other traditional accompaniment. Rather wonderful.
