Momoe Yamaguchi was retiring in 1980 just as another idol star Seiko Matsuda was beginning. Whereas Matsuda has courted the press until today and has been involved in a number of scandals, Yamaguchi retired to get married and have a family and stays out of the media spotlight. For seven years from 1973 she was one of Japan's most famous people. Even today though she has a legendary despite leading a relatively reclusive life. Considered her best album, Manju Shage was released in 1978.
