Mango no Ki no Shita de

Yasuaki Shimizu worked with director Takeshi Shibata on the award winning series Tomei na Yurikago and has teamed up with him again on the Pacific war drama Mango no Ki no Shita de (Under the Mango Tree). Centered around the Philippines campaign in 1944, the drama looks back on the accounts of Japanese women in the postwar Showa and Heisai eras. The theme is based around surging and receding waves of piano and strings. Yashi no Mi was a popular song, given a new lease of life with Shimizu's tenor sax and piano. The final track is an 11 minute improvisation.
