Trio Matamoros were formed in 1925 in Santiago de Cuba in Oriente Province, called the 'hometown of Cuban music'. The band were active for 35 years with the same members under the leadership of composer Miguel Matamoros. This album contains tracks from throughout their career, showing their evolution. The music is based around Cuban trova, a kind of popular music created by itinerant musicians, or trovadores. They are considered one of the most important groups in the development of son. This album contains tracks ranging in performances from a simple trio to quartet, septet and orchestra.
