Product Description
Fantastic album of shakuhachi playing different genres of music with band of drums, bass, piano plus Tsugaru shamisen. Born in Shinagawa, Tokyo in 1952, he comes from a musical family. One grandfather was acclaimed minyo singer Masao Suzuki, the other, first generation shakuhachi player Hidemizu Enomoto. He initially played tenor sax and flute in a band at university, progressing to perform with some leading jazz orchestras and combos, while leading his own quartet touring domestically and internationally.Meanwhile, he studied under his father, the second-generation Enomoto Hidemizu, acquiring the techniques of playing Kinko-ryu shakuhachi and studying folk singing, eventually becoming the third-generation Enomoto Hidemizu. While working as an accompanist for folk songs, he also incorporated the shakuhachi into his own jazz quartet, performing original tunes and other pieces. In 2014, as a 'Japan-Spain Cultural Exchange Ambassador' he performed and lectured on minyo, shakuhachi, and other Japanese instruments throughout Spain. In 2018, he was invited to the 'World Shakuhachi Festival' held in London as a workshop instructor for minyo shakuhachi.
