Kathak is the main classical dance from North India, developed in the temples. The word 'kathak' comes from the original Sanskrit word 'kathakar' which means a storyteller. The music, with some Islamic influences is equally engaging, the main accompanying instruments being tabla, sarangi, pakhawaj, harmonium, sitar, sarod, and various flutes. Recorded in 1983.
