Recorded in 1976 in Surakarta. Produced by Robert E Brown, this is the gamelan music of the Mangkunegaran Court of Surakarta. It is said this gamelan caused the demise of a coup, led by two princes against Dutch rule and the Mangkunegaran king. They fought over who would own the Mangkunegaran gamelan that is heard on this recording.
