Friction, formed in 1978, are pioneers of the Japanese alternative rock scene. Vocalist/guitarist/bassist, Reck and dummer/saxophonist Chiko Hige partly learnt their trade in New York playing with Teenage Jesus & The Jerks and The Contortions among others. Sometimes compared to PIL or the Birthday Party, they've released a constant stream of records, never reaching the mainstream, but growing an ever expanding army of fans while maintaining critical acclaim. Deepers is one such album to have received such critical acclaim, and the band were one of the big hits at Fuji Rock Festival in 2009 playing material from this album, made up of covers and original songs.
