Product Description

Togitatsu no Utare originally premiered in 1925, is based on an event in Kawgawa prefecture in 1827, when a sword polisher killed a samurai who was in an affair with his wife. Hideki Noda, (born 1955) known for his eccentric and large scale dramas, remade it and first staged his version in 2001. In Noda's version a sword polisher, Tatsuji, tricks the chief retainer of Lord Awadu, Hirai Ichiroemon, who dies of apoplexy as a result. Retainers testified that Tatsuji had killed Hirai, whose sons then set out to kill Hirai in a vendetta. Filmed in 2005, and shown in cinemas 2008.
