Cinema Kabuki are a series of Kabuki plays filmed on multiple HD cameras and screened in cinemas in Japan and in various locations worldwide including New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Singapore. This version of Nezumi Kozo was written and directed for the stage by Hideki Noda, at the invitation of the late Nakamura Kanzaburo, and recorded live at the Kabuki-za in Tokyo 2003. Nezumi is a sort of Japanese version of Robin Hood, an 18th century folk hero. A coffin maker's greed makes him take on Nazumi, in disguise as the 'rat burglar'. Society's pretenses are destroyed as corruption is exposed and the mighty are brought down.
