An in-depth study of their songs, choral arrangements, and the dances performed while singing. Triple and quadruple meters are the norm, of course, they also sang in meters of 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 beats. The songs don't maintain a strict, steady tempo; the rhythm was constantly in flux. It is said that when someone in the settlement falls ill, the Bushmen sing and dance to extract the sickness. They also dance to resolve disputes or to bring rain during a drought. To unravel unfolding mysteries, the author scoured and closely studied a vast amount of literature and searched for old audio and video recordings of Bushman music. Includes CD of rare, exclusive Bushman recordings.
