Wonderful collaboration between Akiko Yano, the legendary pop/jazz singer, pianist and Agatsuma, the leading Tsugaru shamisen player. Yano first saw Agatsuma in New York in 2013, which led to a collaboration the following year at the same venue. In 2019, they started recording this album, partially from opposite sides of the world. The album is centered around Japanese minyo or folk songs, Yano sings in both her straightforward way, and traditional style, while Agatsuma, almost the first time for him, also sings throughout the album. Highly recommeneded.
