The bunraku play Shimpan Utazaimon, written by Hanji Chikamatsu was staged for the first time in 1780 and is about the eternal triangle of Osome, the daughter of the owner of an aburaya (oil store), Hisamatsu, an apprentice who is working in the store, and Omitsu the daughter of a farmer, Kyusaku. A popular 'sewamono' contemporary setting play. Nozaki mura is the best known act and regularly performed in Kabuki. Nagamachi was revived in 1971, so the play can be performed in its near entirety.
