Product Description
Some of Japan's most intriguing music of recent years has been released by a small label in Tokyo, Doyasa Records run by Agatha. Agatha is one half of the duo Suzumeno Tears whose album 'Sparrows Arrows Fly so High' gained a lot of attention not just in Japan but around the world. Before that, she also produced and released in 2022 an album by singer Remon Nakanishi called Hinano Iezuto. This is the follow up album by Remon Nakanishi. It's an altogether more ambitious project. Minyo (folk) goze uta (songs of blind itinerant women singers) and other songs delve deeply into songs from throughout Japan that have been sung by ordinary people, as opposed to preserved by societies.
Agatha and Remon Nakanishi became friends through participating in a course with an interest in alternative bon odori festival music, particularly goshu ondo of Tadamaru Sakuragawa. Nakanishi has an interest in other arts, such as ancient literature and even drew the artwork for this album. Agatha has added diverse musical styles from around the world in her arrangements and productions. Some nineteen musicians take part playing drums, percussion, bass, sax, keyboards, violin, viola, cello, vibraphone and more. These include keyboard player Emerson Kitamura who has played with Mute Beat, Jagatara, Ego-Wrappin and many more, and Tokyo resident and brilliant Brazilian drummer Daniel Baeder.
A monumental album of Japanese roots music.
