Sotsuju

Chikurei Kitsu passed away in 2022 at the age of 90. He spent a lifetime performing as a minyo (local folk) singer. This is a collection of recordings from his final years, including shortly before he died. His two daughters, Kaori and Shigeri are both acclaimed minyo singers today. The impetus for this album was a video posted online by his daughter Kaori, seen by producer Makoto Kubota. This lead to various recording sessions that also featured Kaori, playing shamisen, taiko, gottan and fue (flute). Some magical recordings, with Chikurei Kitsu performing in a style, almost lost in the modern world, that belied his age.
