Khmer Traditional Wedding Music

BoranPHLENG PIN PEAT
Boran

Price:   £12.99

(Reference #FSD2931)

Pinpeat is a form of Khmer classical music that dates back about a thousand years to the Angkor era, borne out by pictures of similar musicians carved into the stones of Angkor Wat. A pinpeat ensemble consists of wind and percussion instruments, including the roneat (bamboo xylophone) kong vong tuch (cart wheel shaped tuned percussion) samphor (double headed barrel drums) and the sralai tuch and sralai thom (both khmer quadruple reed instruments). Pinpeat ensembles play important roles in many Cambodian traditions mostly of a religious nature. Mostly upbeat, joyful music, there isn't much variety within the 11 tracks, except for some rasping reed passages, but a fantastic document of this fascinating music.
