Far Side Music represents internationally one of Japan's finest independent world music record companies, Respect Records. We have worked with Respect on many releases, including initiating and overseeing recording projects such as the acclaimed albums by Takashi Hirayasu and Bob Brozman, released outside of Japan by World Music Network and an album recorded in London of Sierra Leone palm wine music, by Abdul Tee-Jay released in Europe by Far Side Music. In addition we have also co-ordinated European licensing and exports of Respect Records. If you are a record company or distributor, and interested in releasing titles from their catalogue in your territory, please ask us for samples and more information. Respect has also proved to be a welcome home for world music artists and labels from other countries. In 2001, in conjuction with Far Side Music, Respect released the Rough Guide music CDs to Okinawa and Indonesia,(both compiled by Paul Fisher), Taj Mahal and the Hula Blues Band, and from Madagascar, Tarika's Soul Makassar. In 2003, Respect released an album by the master of palm wine music, SE Rogie. Respect Records has major distribution (via Avex) and tirelessly promotes it's music to all major and minor magazines, radio and TV. Respect has arranged tours and promotional trips for some of these artists and is dedicated to establishing their names in Japan.
