ELODIA KANEBiography-Elodia Kane, wife of esteemed Hawaiian slack key guitar player Ray Kane, releases her first and long overdue solo album. She is the owner of a divine voice every bit as beautiful and sensitive as her husband's guitar playing. On her self titled debut album Elodia's mellifluous vocals floats over the perfectly understated guitar accompaniment of Japanese slack key player Yuki 'Alani' Yamauchi, himself a disciple of Ray Kane. She sings the songs she grew up with, evoking the warmth and 'aloha' of Hawaii. Perhaps Elodia was always the kindred spirit destined to fulfill the promise of Ray's middle name Kaleoalohapoiaoelhelemanu; 'the voice of love that comes and goes like a bird, and will never be forgotten.' Elodia Kaohiwelukalai Kane
is from Honolulu, of Hawaiian, German, Spanish, Filipino and English
descent. She sang originally in a church choir, but didn't sing in public
until she was coaxed onto stage to sing during a performance by Momi
Jones. A man had volunteered himself as well, and unbeknown to Elodia
he was a musician. Being impressed with Elodia's singing he asked her
join to his group. His name was Raymond Kane. In the ensuing years,
Ray earned himself a reputation as one of the greats of the Hawaiian
slack key guitar tradition. Elodia has traveled and performed with Ray
around the world, including the US, Canada, Australia and Japan. Audiences
have always been greatly moved by her singing, and at last, Hawaiian
music lovers have a chance to hear that wonderful voice on a recording . |
