CHIEKO IHA

Biography

Chieko Iha started performing from the age of eight. She was a member of the now legendary group "Four Sisters". Four Sisters were the first of the female chorus groups, a mantle later occupied by the group Nenes. Four Sisters had several local hits on the island before disbanding in 1974. Just two years ago, Chieko Iho made her solo debut, although her name and style were certainly not forgotten from her Four Sisters days.

On the album Omoro Uta (meaning 'Love Songs') all the songs were composed by Tsuneo Fukuhara. Indeed the Four Sisters were also released on the Fukuhara's Marafuku label previously. The album therefore consists totally of Fukuhara's trademark beautiful songs.

The accompanying musicians on the album are fine studio musicians, known as the Kuricorder Quartet, who have backed many Japanese rock and pop artists. The album mixes old and new, traditional and modern. One song features all the original members of Four Sisters, together again after 20 years Also included is "Shima Jima Kaisha" also covered by Nenes.
