Masateru Ando studied under the late great Michio Miyagi and other members of the Miyagi dynasty. He is known for combining the traditional elements as passed on by Miyagi together with a modern approach and various collaborations. He has performed extensively in Japan and around the world and is currently a professor in the traditional music faculty at the renowned Tokyo Geijutsu University.
